Sripada Vallabha Anagha Datta Kshetram is both a historical and spiritual cornerstone of the Dattatreya tradition, rooted in the life of the 14th‑century Saint Sripada Sri Vallabha. It continues to vibrate with devotion through daily rituals, homams, festivals, and pilgrim support—all underpinned by the global mission of Avadhoota Datta Peetham.

📍 Location & Significance

  • Situated in Datta Nagar, near the cattle market in Pithapuram, East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh 533450.

  • Pithapuram is a revered pilgrimage site, home to this temple among other historic (and swayambhu) shrines like Kukkuteswara and Puruhutika, and is famed for the sacred Pada Gaya Sarovar.

The Deity & Spiritual Heritage

  • Dedicated to Lord Dattatreya in the form of Sripada Sri Vallabha, believed to be his first incarnation in the 1300s CE in Pithapuram, who attained samadhi around age 30 and is revered as a chiranjeevi (immortal) in lore.

  • Anagha Datta, another manifestation of Dattatreya, is invoked here—devotees believe worshipping removes sins and grants blessings, prosperity, and moksha (liberation).

  • The site’s sanctity is enhanced by it being part of the broader Dattatreya guru-parampara, connecting saints like Sripada Vallabha, Sri Nrisimha Saraswati, Manik Prabhu, Swami Samartha of Akkalkot, and Sai Baba.

Historical Origins & Temple

  • The temple marks the birthplace/home of Sripada Vallabha (around 1320–1326 CE) and is built at the historic residence of his grandfather, Bapannavadhanulu.

  • It houses a swayambhu (self-manifested) idol of Datta, and beneath an Audumbar (fig) tree lie the divine padukas (footprints) of the saint.

  • Construction, as part of the Anagha Datta Kshetra initiative, was led by Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji of the Avadhoota Datta Peetham in Mysore—this site is one of the major Datta temples he has established since 2002.
