Devnar Foundation For The Blind
The Devnar Foundation for the Blind began in 1991 in Hyderabad. Dr. A. Saibaba Goud, a well-known eye doctor, started this non-profit to help people with vision loss live independently. He named it “Devnar” by combining “Dev” (God) and “Nar” (Man), showing that every person has god-like potential.
🎓 Education That Changes Lives
To begin with, Devnar School for the Blind gives free education from LKG to Class 12. The school follows the State Board syllabus. It also offers free boarding, uniforms, and study materials, so that children from all backgrounds can study without worry. When the school started, there were only 4 students. Today, nearly 550 children learn here with the help of 50 dedicated teachers.
💻 Using Technology for a Better Future
Next, Devnar became one of the first schools in India to teach computer skills to blind students. They also run their own Braille press. This press prints textbooks, dictionaries, and even holy books like the Ramayana and Hanuman Chalisa. Some of these books are even shared with places like the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
🏠 A Strong and Growing Campus
Located in Begumpet, Hyderabad, the campus includes classrooms, a hostel, a library, and centers for vocational training. Now, the foundation is building a five-story block. This new space will add more classrooms, staff rooms, a science lab, and a special resource center to support the growing number of students.
🌟 Inspired by Visionary Leadership
Finally, Dr. A. Saibaba Goud leads the foundation with passion and purpose. Over the years, he has won several awards, including the Padma Shri and the Dr. B.C. Roy National Award. His wife, Mrs. Jyothi Goud, also plays a big role in the foundation’s work. She takes care of daily operations and supports students in many ways.
