Abhaya Association for Empowerment of Women

The Abhaya Association for Empowerment of Women is a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in ECIL, Hyderabad, Telangana. It is dedicated to the social and economic empowerment of women, particularly those from underprivileged and rural backgrounds. The organization focuses on making women self-reliant through skill development, entrepreneurship training, and creating awareness about health and social rights. A key aspect of their work involves identifying creativity in rural women (such as those in Keesara village) and providing them with the professional skills needed to generate income from home without disrupting their family lives.

• Skill Development Impact: Successfully trained numerous rural women in specialized skills like Maggam embroidery, surface ornamentation, and fashion accessory making, enabling them to earn a sustainable livelihood.

• Recognition: The organization and its members have been recognized for their contributions to social service. For instance, they have been involved in the “Young Women Achiever Award” initiatives to felicitate inspiring women.

• Strategic Partnerships: They have collaborated with government bodies and other organizations to host seminars on women’s empowerment, including participation in the All India MSME World Expo.

Activities

The association conducts a variety of programs aimed at holistic development:

• Entrepreneur Skill Development Program (ESDP): Training women in surface ornamentation, embroidery, and accessory making.

• Health Camps: Organizing free health check-ups and awareness camps, such as breast cancer screening and general health camps in local communities like Sonia Gandhi Nagar.

• Cultural & Social Events: Hosting events like Food Fests and Dussehra Dandiya Celebrations to encourage community bonding and provide a platform for women to showcase their talents.

• Awareness Workshops: Conducting sessions on “Empowering Girls for a Brighter Tomorrow” and other motivational topics.
